Thomas Mitchell is a Tutor and Research Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering at Swansea University. He completed an MEng in Aerospace Engineering followed by a PhD in Civil Engineering, which focused on the numerical modelling of tremie concrete in deep foundation construction. His research examines how design factors and construction techniques, such as reinforcement spacing, concrete workability and pile base cleaning, affect concrete flow mechanisms during the pouring phase and, consequently, the generation of defects in the completed structures. Thomas teaches engineering students at undergraduate level and is passionate about embedding industry-relevant skills throughout the degree programme.
