

Michael Wan is a Chartered Engineer in both the UK and Hong Kong with 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering across Europe and Asia. He obtained his PhD from Imperial College London and is currently an Associate Director at Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG), where he leads and manages a wide range of specialist geotechnical consultancy work, including technical due diligence, independent reviews and checks, and geotechnical expert witness services. Michael’s expertise encompasses ground investigation design, foundation and excavation design, ground movement and impact assessment, as well as geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring design.
Michael remains actively engaged in practical engineering research and regularly publishes technical papers. His notable contributions of Crossrail-related studies, published in Géotechnique, have earned him two ICE Telford Gold Medals and a British Geotechnical Association (BGA) Medal. Michael is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, an ICE Reviewer for Chartered Professional Reviews and an ICE approved mentor.
