Dr. Matthew Badger is a chartered civil engineer with 15 years’ experience working in the water and flood risk management sector. The Environment Agency is accelerating the adoption of innovative low carbon solutions through a multi-year, collaborative Decarbonisation Technology Accelerator (DTA) project. The DTA will use desktop research, site trials, and change management process to ensure good ideas are adopted in a widespread and consistent manner. Matthew provides technical assurance to the Steel theme of the DTA, working collaboratively with colleagues from VolkerStevin and AtkinsRealis. The focus of the team is on the decarbonisation of steel piles, including business-as-usual use of ‘green steel’, reuse of piles, optimisation of design, and new approaches to inform asset management.
