

Erica is a Regional Director at Coffey Geotechnics Ltd.’s Reading office and has nearly 30 years’ experience working in civil engineering and geotechnical consultancy on a wide range of projects. Erica’s experience covers the whole life of design projects from feasibility and desk studies, site investigations, pile testing and earthworks trials, geotechnical analysis, design and delivery of foundations, retaining walls, slope improvements and earthworks, through to site implementation, post-construction advice and expert advice during claims and litigation. Erica studied for her BEng in Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol and later returned there to undertake a research MSc, monitoring and back-analysing a steel sheet pile basement, with a particular focus on the potential impact of the first generation Eurocodes on sheet pile wall design. She later contributed to the Steel Designer’s Manual with a chapter on steel piles and basements. Erica has worked for Arup in Nottingham, Bristol, London and the Arup Olympic Infrastructure team. She also spent six years at Tony Gee, before joining Coffey in 2018, taking over the leadership of the Coffey Reading office in 2023. Erica is a Chartered Engineer and is currently lead author for the new CIRIA Piling Good Practice Guide.
