Alan is currently the Technical Director responsible for all design and technical construction aspects for the Bouygues-Murphy Joint Venture, delivering the Tunnels and Approaches contract for the Lower Thames Crossing Project. Alan has recently completed a similar role for the Align Joint Venture (Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Volker Fitzpatrick) working in partnership with HS2 to deliver the Chiltern Tunnels and Colne Valley Viaduct. He led a multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively with the Align construction teams as well as numerous stakeholders to optimize the designs and support the on-time delivery of these significant civil assets. Alan started his working career on the construction of the tunnels and caverns for the particle accelerator at CERN in Switzerland and now has almost 40yrs of design, construction, commissioning and operations experience having been involved in most of the major projects in the UK rail sector dating back to the Channel Tunnel. He had a lead role in the design and delivery of CTRL Section 1 (HS1) and West Coast Route Modernization and has also served on the board of Metronet, London Underground and the Rail Regulator.
